Visit by UK Inbound Travel Operators (26 Oct):

As part of a Countrywide promotional programme Fáilte Ireland brought a group of 20 of the top UK travel organisers to the Battle of the Boyne site in Oldbridge, Co Meath to showcase one of our major tourist attractions. These Operators manage large numbers of visitors/tourists from key markets around the world and are seeking new destinations to add to existing itineraries.

A particular focus of their visit was the identification of sites and facilities which are suitable for the expanding new markets of India and China. The recently upgrading of the Audio Visual presentation at the Battlesite incorporating Hindi and Mandarin as available languages - which is a ‘first’ for OPW - was of great interest to the group. Together with the mix of high standard exhibitions, walks, gardens, catering and infrastructure around the Boyne Valley, incorporating the Battle of the Boyne site, is likely to figure prominently in travel plans from these key markets. India holds a particular historic resonance given the arrival of European influence in the 17th century and subsequent military engagements, while China’s ancient cultures hold much in common with the Pre-history of the greater Boyne Valley.
